Chelsea In Pole Position To Sign 26-Year-Old Brazilian Defender
The London giants could revive their interest in PSG centre-back Marquinhos after Thomas Tuchel takes the reins. As mentioned in the report, Tuchel is expected to be appointed as Blues new boss after Frank Lampard was sacked by the club yesterday. Thomas Tuchel’s appointment would mark the start of a new era, based on new ideas, which could require new footballers to be recruited. Frank Lampard’s status as a club legend bought him little time, with Chelsea in ninth place and in real danger of missing out on the UCL qualification.
Marquinhos could be one of them, with Blues recently being interested in signing him and Mauricio considering him one of his most important figures at PSG. Parisians will no doubt be reluctant to sell, but if the price is right, and the Brazilian defender was to be keen on a reunion with his former coach, there’s nothing to say it couldn’t happen.
Marquinhos was one of the top five most expensive centre-backs of all time before Man City snapped up John Stones from Everton for £48m. But things aren’t all rosy for the Parisians, as the club may have to make cutbacks in other positions to meet their Financial Fair Play targets for the next campaign.
Chelsea pursued him heavily in 2015 and have continued to track him in case he ever became available. A deal would seem difficult, given he is one of PSG’s most influential footballers and has recently stated he could remain for the rest of his career, but Thomas Tuchel’s use of him took the footballer to very high levels.
