Chelsea Renewed Negotiations With 33-Year-Old Uruguayan Striker
Blues have offered Benfica the chance to sign Michy Batshuayi, with the Liga NOS giants now eyeing an alternative to centre-forward target Edinson Cavani. Due to the failure of signing Uruguay international on a free transfer, the Eagles are working on other targets, ex-Chelsea player Diego Costa is actually seen as an alternative option………..Chelsea Renewed Negotiations With 33-Year-Old Uruguayan Striker
It’s added that Benfica’s recent interest in Michy could be a factor, the European club wanted to sign Batshuayi before he moved to Marseille in 2013. Michy is amongst a number of out-of-favour Blues footballers that Chelsea are hoping to part with, the striker has a year remaining on his deal.
Blues signed the Belgian striker in the summer of 2016 for a fee of £33m. This deal has hardly worked out for the London club with the charismatic ace playing a very minimal role. Belgium international has been sent out on loan three times by Chelsea to Borussia Dortmund, Valencia and Crystal Palace respectively.
Michy has played a very fringe role for Frank Lampard’s side this campaign, with 19 of the striker’s 24 first-team games coming off the bench. Batshuayi has scored six times and chipped in with two assists though, there’s no doubt that the centre-forward, who is still only 26-years-old, would be a decent option for a side like the Eagles.
It’s clear that Michy doesn’t have a future at Chelsea, but the striker is young enough to still leave and carve out a solid career elsewhere. With his experience and quality, that is certainly what Frank will be hoping for if a deal is reached, as he continues to try and bolster his squad ahead of the new season.
