Man United In Pole Position To Sign 21-Year-Old Italian Attacker
The Red Devils and Spurs stay interested in Roma playmaker Nicolo Zaniolo, reports claim. However, the duo are at a huge disadvantage with Italy international eager to remain in Serie A. Zaniolo joined Roma from Inter Milan in 2018 for a paltry £4m but is now reportedly worth upwards of £50m. Man United In Pole Position To Sign 21-Year-Old Italian Attacker
Nicolo has enjoyed another fantastic season for Roma, scoring seven goals and providing two assists in 28 matches despite suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in winter. His exploits have seen him linked with a mega-money move to Man United, Tottenham, Arsenal, Liverpool and Real Madrid.
Inter Milan and Juventus have also been linked. But San Siro chief executive Giuseppe Marotta revealed his side probably wouldn’t submit an offer. “He’s one of most interesting players in the league, but we haven’t approached Roma officials and probably won’t,” Marotta said.
Nerazzurri’s indifference would seemingly open the door for PL clubs. But Bianconeri are in pole-position because the 21-year-old playmaker has made staying in Serie A his priority. Man United and Tottenham aren’t without hope, however, because of the Giallorossi need to balance the books.
It’s believed that Paulo Fonseca’s side will have to sacrifice first-team footballers like Zaniolo and Lorenzo Pellegrini having posted debts of around £245m. Last year, the Italian midfielder’s progress and style earned him comparisons to Red Devils superstar Paul Pogba.
“I liked Nicolo Zaniolo because he is physically strong, he often dictates on the pitch and when he has the ball they can never take it away,” Italy manager Roberto Mancini said. Man United signed Bruno Fernandes from Sporting and Odion Ighalo from Shanghai Shenhua during the winter transfer window.
